Last weekend, Matthieu traveled to Ireland to participate in a 24-hour race in Dublin. His participation was part of his preparation for the World Championship 6 Days Race, where he will attack the World Record 6 Days track running of 1,038 km, scheduled from September 5 to 11 in Hungary. This test proved to be highly successful, as Matthieu managed to surpass the 21-year-old Belgian record set by Paul Beckers in 2003 by more than 5 kilometers. This is yet another record to his name, following previous successful attempts in swimming and cycling.
In March, Matthieu Bonne had to abandon his world record attempt to run 1,038 kilometers in six days due to a severe lung infection. Since that attempt in Merelbeke, Matthieu has made significant changes. He assembled a team that includes a nutrition coach, a mental coach, and a medical staff. Matthieu also enlisted ultrarunning coach Benny Fischer and changed his training methods. He looks now sharper than ever and is ready to destroy another World Record.
To avoid the crowded races in Belgium, Matthieu opted to compete in a 24-hour race in Dublin. The aim was to conduct an intensive test in preparation for his next challenge. Matthieu aimed to complete 690 laps of 400 meters, totaling 276 kilometers. He ultimately achieved 275.2 kilometers, setting a new Belgian Record. This distance also placed Matthieu 25th in the world for the longest distance ever covered in a 24-hour race, an impressive feat for his first attempt.
